Lagos Governorship Candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Clarifies Relationship with Peter Obi

In a recent turn of events, former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has denied abandoning Peter Obi, the LP's presidential candidate.

During his formal declaration to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Alimosho, Lagos State on Saturday, Rhodes-Vivour made it clear that he and Obi are still in communication and aligned, despite his decision to switch parties. He mentioned that Obi was aware of his plan to defect to the ADC.

Rhodes-Vivour pledged his allegiance to the ADC on the same day, emphasising their shared goal of a successful election in the opposition through a coalition. However, he did not provide any further details about his current relationship with Obi or any specific agreement or aim beyond this objective.

The LP, led by Nenadi Usman, has criticised Rhodes-Vivour's hasty and ill-advised defection to the ADC. Despite this, Peter Obi has continued to engage opposition parties without leaving the LP.

A representative of Peter Obi was present at Rhodes-Vivour's declaration to the ADC, suggesting that there may still be some level of cooperation between the two parties. Rhodes-Vivour also mentioned that they have all agreed on the need for a coalition in the opposition.

No new information about any other political parties or candidates was provided in Rhodes-Vivour's statement. It is unclear at this time what steps, if any, Rhodes-Vivour has taken regarding his defection to the ADC that Obi was not aware of.

As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how this development affects the opposition's chances in the upcoming elections. Both the LP and the ADC, along with other opposition parties, will need to find a way to work together effectively if they hope to challenge the incumbent parties.
