Richard Bland College Establishes Dealer Training Program for Employment Opportunities at Petersburg Casino

Fire Up Your Casino Career: The Richard Bland College Dealer Institute is gearing up to train the future gaming industry workforce for the upcoming "Live! Casino & Hotel" in Petersburg, VA. This rigorous program aims to give local residents the skills needed to seize lucrative casino careers.

Money, Games, and Classes

The Dealer Institute kickoff arrives on Sunday, August 4th, at Richard Bland College's Workforce & Career Readiness Center (3333 South Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805). Interested individuals can attend information sessions on June 11th, 18th, and 25th, from 5-7 p.m. at Ernst Hall on campus, to dive deeper into the program and job prospects.

Classes will be conducted from Monday to Thursday, providing flexible timetables with three sessions: 8 a.m. to noon, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Although the classes are gratis, trainees will have to dish out $139 for the essential blackjack training kit.

Casino Cha-Ching: Virginia's Live Casino Debut

This workforce development endeavor is a reaction to the surging demand for professionals as the interim Live! Casino Virginia gears up to launch later this year, offering around 500 dealer positions. Grads of the RBC Dealer Institute will be nudged to vie for these openings, but employment isn't guaranteed.

The course curriculum, jointly developed by RBC and casino developers, focuses on real-world skills, with blackjack being the starting card game. Future offerings will include roulette and baccarat training. The program will be taught by seasoned, licensed dealers, promising top-notch, industry-tailored instruction.

Region Rising: College and Casino Team Up

Dr. Debbie Sydow, President of Richard Bland College, underscored the school's dedication to presenting sustainable career prospects for the local community. When asked about the perks of the program, Dr. Sydow commented:

"Richard Bland College is all-in on partnering businesses granting local jobs. Live! Casino Virginia is betting on long-term careers for Petersburg and its vicinity. We're stoked to establish the Dealer Institute and help our students venture into careers in the gaming and entertainment field."

Penny Parayo, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Petersburg casino, concurred, underlining the institute's part in setting the stage for enduring careers for its alumni.

The Dealer Institute plays a vital role in the broader economic development of the Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia project. Although the temporary casino will launch this year, the permanent $1.4 billion resort isn't slated for completion until 2027, promising continual job creation and financial benefits for Petersburg and its surrounds over time.
