Rick Davies, the co-founder and keyboardist of the British rock band Supertramp, passed away on Saturday at the age of 81. The news was confirmed by Supertramp's website and Universal Music.

Born in 1944 in the English town of Swindon, Davies began his musical journey as a drummer in the band Rick's Blues, where Gilbert O'Sullivan was also a member. In 1969, he co-founded Supertramp with Roger Hodgson.

The band initially gained a breakthrough with the album "Crime of the Century" in 1974. However, it was their 1979 album "Breakfast in America" that catapulted them to international stardom. Under Davies' leadership, the band landed worldwide hits as a result of this album.

Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson were responsible for shaping Supertramp's unique sound. Davies is known for his deeper voice and songs like "Goodbye Stranger" and "Bloody Well Right", while Hodgson is renowned for his distinctive high voice and songs like "The Logical Song".

Supertramp achieved their greatest success with "Breakfast in America", and they released four more albums under Davies' leadership until 2002. After Roger Hodgson's departure in 1983, Davies continued to lead Supertramp despite long-standing disputes over copyrights and royalties.

Later, Davies occasionally performed with the group Ricky and the Rockets, but the available search results do not mention the name of the person who led the band after Davies left Supertramp.

Davies passed away in his home on Long Island after a long battle with cancer. He was still on stage until 2022.

The Supertramp Partnership announced Davies' death in a statement, expressing their condolences and gratitude for his contributions to the music industry. Davies' legacy will live on through his music and the impact he had on the world of rock and roll.
