Ride time’s here for an adrenaline spike!
The Fantasy Filmfest, now in its 39th year, is gearing up for another exciting edition, promising a thrilling journey through the realms of horror, science fiction, animation, and comedy. This year, the festival is set to run from the 1st of July to the 7th, with screenings starting in the afternoon and extending late into the night, attracting dedicated fans who even take time off work to attend.
One of the highly anticipated films this year is "Good Boy", a goosebumps horror from a dog's perspective. Indy, a loyal canine companion, defends his owner Todd in this heart-pounding film. Indy senses danger in Todd's new home, and it seems that something sinister lurks within, threatening Todd's life.
In a stark contrast, Quentin Dupieux, known for his quirky films like "Rubber", presents his latest work, "The Piano Accident". This dark media satire and thriller comedy is sure to leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
For those seeking a dose of black humour, the festival has got you covered. "Exit 8" is a claustrophobic thriller in the style of "Cube", following a man trapped in an endless subway tunnel, searching for exit 8.
If horror is more your cup of tea, "The Home" is a chilling tale about an old woman who, after a heart attack, was clinically dead for seven minutes, and her trip to the afterlife has changed her in a terrifying way.
For fans of action and superheroes, "Hi-Five" is a must-watch. This Korean film involves five people who have had an organ transplant and suddenly gain superpowers. Watch out for the supervillain lurking in the background!
In the comedy department, Rainn Wilson, known for his role in "The Office", shines as an ambulance driver in "Code 3". Wilson portrays a character who has to survive a particularly tough shift, promising a rollercoaster of emotions.
The festival also boasts a special section called "Fresh Blood", where new talents are showcased. "Nina" is one such film, a German premiere featuring a woman returning to her childhood village in Spain after 30 years, armed only with a gun for luggage.
Last but not least, Daisy Ridley, known for her role in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", faces unusual zombies in the film "We Bury The Dead". The specific title of the film she stars in at the festival remains undisclosed, adding to the excitement.
Festival director Artur Brzozowski is on the lookout for films that feel special, not necessarily because they reinvent the wheel, but because they have that certain something that stays in your memory. With a lineup as diverse and intriguing as this, it's safe to say that the Fantasy Filmfest 2023 will indeed leave a lasting impression.
