Ros Canter, a 39-year-old British equestrian, has once again made history by winning the Burghley Horse Trials for the second consecutive year. Her victory at Burghley, combined with her win at Luhmuhlen earlier this year, marks an extraordinary season for the accomplished rider.

Canter's success at Burghley was particularly impressive, as she secured a nine-penalty victory with a final score of 23.6. This triumph makes her the first rider since Ginny Leng in 1989 to win both Badminton and Burghley in the same year on the same horse, Lordships Graffalo. Notably, Lordships Graffalo also became the first horse to win both prestigious events twice.

Last year, Canter won the Burghley title shortly after clinching team eventing gold at the Paris Olympics. However, this year, due to her pregnancy, she has withdrawn from consideration for Britain's squad at the upcoming home European championships. Despite this, Canter's achievement at Burghley has earned her a place in the annals of eventing history.

In an interview with the BBC after her victory, Canter expressed her gratitude for the support she has received, stating that only a few people have expressed concern. She also revealed her plans to compete at Badminton next year, pending any complications due to childbirth.

Behind Canter, Austin O'Connor from Ireland finished second in the Burghley Horse Trials on Colorado Blue, while Harry Meade from Britain finished third for the third consecutive year, this time on Cavalier Crystal.

Ros Canter's extraordinary season has seen her win three five-star events in one season, making her only the second rider to achieve this feat after Pippa Funnell, who accomplished the Grand Slam of Eventing in 2003. Canter's pregnancy may have forced her to step back from competition temporarily, but her achievements this year are a testament to her skill and determination as a rider.
