Road Closures Imminent Due to Upcoming DC Bike Event
The Metropolitan Police Department has announced street closures for the 9th annual D.C. Bike Ride, taking place this weekend on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
The event, happening in Washington D.C., will see thousands of cyclists riding through the Capitol, as the streets are closed to vehicle traffic for the duration of the event. The streets will be closed starting from 2:30 a.m. and will reopen at 12:00 p.m.
The route for this year's ride includes Virginia Avenue, NW from New Hampshire Avenue, NW to Rock Creek Parkway, NW, the Arlington Memorial Bridge from Lincoln Circle to George Washington Parkway, the Potomac River Freeway from Ohio Drive, NW to Whitehurst Freeway, NW, and many more.
The streets affected also include 14th Street, NW from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to 14th Street Bridge, Rock Creek Drive from Memorial Parkway Drive to Virginia Avenue, SW, 23rd Street, NW from Lincoln Circle to Independence Avenue, SW, Independence Avenue, NW from 3rd Street, NW to 23rd Street, SW, E Street Expressway from Theodore Roosevelt Bridge to 19th Street, NW, and 27th Street, NW from K Street, NW to Virginia Avenue, NW.
Whitehurst Freeway from M Street to 27th Street, NW will also be affected, as well as the section of 23rd Street, NW from Lincoln Circle to Independence Avenue, SW, and 14th Street, NW from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to 14th Street Bridge.
The 9th annual D.C. Bike Ride is not open to motor vehicles and is a popular event, with thousands participating each year. The event is promoting a car-free environment for a day in Washington D.C.
This year's ride is also supporting the donation of bicycles for children. The annual D.C. Bike Ride is supported by the organization "DC Bikes for Kids," which promotes bike donations and cycling events benefiting children in Washington, D.C.
