On August 28, 2025, at 11:01 AM, a serious car accident occurred on the A46 in the direction of Brilon. The incident involved a Volkswagen Golf Cabrio and an Audi Q8 RS, causing partial closure of the road for rescue and recovery operations.
According to the preliminary investigation, the accident occurred when the VW Golf Cabrio attempted to overtake a truck and failed to notice the approaching Audi Q8 RS. The Audi collided with the median barrier before colliding with the Golf. This impact caused the Golf to spin and collide with a tree on the grass median on the right lane.
The driver of the VW Golf Cabrio, a 30-year-old man from Wegberg, was ejected from his vehicle and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the Audi Q8 RS, a 22-year-old man from Belgium, was not reported to have any injuries.
Traffic was rerouted past the scene using the left lane, and an accident investigation team secured the accident site. The A46 was partially closed for several hours as the team conducted their investigation.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, and the name of the accident investigator conducting the investigation on the A46 is not publicly disclosed. The full reopening of the road is expected later in the afternoon.
