"Road transport priority initiatives in four municipalities within Mettmann district: Introduction of 'Project Korrekt'"
On April 10, 2025, the Mettmann County Police initiated an operation called "Project Korrekt" to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists in selected cities within the Mettmann district. The operation took place from 7 am to 2 pm and involved officers from the traffic department, shift duty service, and the Essen police readiness unit.
The cities of Ratingen, Hilden, Langenfeld, and Monheim am Rhein were targeted for monitoring. During the operation, a total of 123 cases of misconduct were found, with 61 against cyclists and pedestrians and 62 against motorists.
In Ratingen, officers found 35 cases of pedestrian and cycling violations. Twelve cases of using the wrong direction lane, six cases of not using the designated traffic lane, and five cyclists distracted by wearing headphones or using a mobile phone were among the violations. Eleven motorists were fined for a right-of-way violation, five motorists for errors while turning, and one driver showed signs of being under the influence of intoxicating substances, leading to a positive THC test and a blood sample being taken at the Ratingen police station.
In Langenfeld and Monheim am Rhein, nine cases of pedestrian and cycling violations were found, mostly due to distraction from headphones or mobile phone use. On the other hand, in Hilden, 17 cases of pedestrian and cycling violations were found, with two cases of pedelecs having no valid insurance. Among motorists in Hilden, 22 were fined, mostly for ignoring right-of-way and other violations, and three cases required an administrative offense procedure.
In Langenfeld, 60 cases of speeding were detected on an extra-urban road, while 1098 drivers complied with the speed limit. At an information booth set up in the Langenfeld city center, citizens could obtain information on "Safety through Visibility" and "Bicycle" topics.
The "Project Korrekt" aims to combat traffic accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists and increase safety on roads, particularly in municipalities with high bicycle traffic. The use of mobile phones in traffic is a common cause of accidents, which can be observed in almost all types of traffic.
The communication head or officer responsible for communication in the Police of Mettmann is not explicitly named in the available sources; however, Yasmin As leads the Directorate of Central Tasks, which includes information and communication technology and services, suggesting she may be involved in communication management for the police in Mettmann.
