Romania Lists 30 Gambling Websites as Unauthorized, Prohibited from Operation

The Romanian National Officer for Gambling (ONJN) has taken a significant step in strengthening regulatory measures against unlicensed gambling activities. The organisation has added 30 websites to its blocking list, including popular platforms such as wazbee.casino, jackpot.com, nv5.casino, and nv93.casino, as well as other similar brands.

These websites did not hold a license issued by the ONJN to operate in the market. Operators have 15 days to comply and stop accepting traffic from Romania to their domains. After the 15-day period, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) will step in and block access to the operators' domains.

This action by the government is an additional step in strengthening regulatory measures. The ONJN's blocking orders are considered a trusted tool in the regulatory arsenal for combating unlicensed gambling activities. However, the efficiency of these blocking requests, due to domain jumping, has been questioned. Operators have chosen names that allow for easy rebranding and relaunch, demonstrating concerns about the measures' effectiveness.

The ONJN has also asked Google and Meta to ensure that illegal gambling operators are not allowed to target local players through unauthorized ads. The organisation that demanded this action is not explicitly named in the available search results.

In addition to these measures, the country has been asked to take additional steps in strengthening measures for improving the national self-exclusion program. The program is a measure aimed at helping individuals control their gambling habits.

Such blocking requests are habitually issued by gambling watchdogs. The use of domain jumping by operators to bypass blocking measures has been a concern for these watchdogs. Despite these challenges, the ONJN remains committed to maintaining a safe and regulated gambling environment in Romania.
