Rural community of Vikramgad, Palghar undergoes comprehensive development and water preservation, driven by the SBI Foundation and Shri Chaitanya Health & Care Trust.

In the heart of the Palghar district, a remarkable transformation is underway. Two initiatives, SBI Gram Seva and SBI Gram Saksham, are working together to improve the lives of thousands in the region, focusing on ten key development areas.

SBI Gram Seva, launched in October 2022, has already positively impacted over 640 households across five villages. The project, a beacon of hope, has been instrumental in enhancing education, healthcare, sustainable agriculture, women empowerment, skill development, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability.

One of the most significant achievements has been the improvement in school attendance among children. The introduction of digital education has reached over 250 students, ensuring they have access to quality education. Healthcare access has also improved, with the introduction of the Sanjeevani Mobile Medical Van and periodic health camps.

Infrastructure upgrades have been a game-changer. Clean drinking water units, toilet renovations, waste management vehicles, solar streetlights, and the planting of 3,000+ trees have not only improved the local environment but also boosted community pride. Today, communities are proud custodians of the water structures they once doubted.

The SBI Gram Saksham initiative has been particularly effective in addressing water scarcity. By constructing farm ponds and small well pits, it has conserved an estimated 150 million litres of water annually. This has not only improved water security but also supported sustainable agriculture, transforming the region from chronic water scarcity and low agricultural output to a model of rural resilience and self-reliance.

The initiatives have also focused on empowering women. Over 80 women have started earning through tailoring and micro-enterprises, gaining financial independence. The projects Gram Seva and Gram Saksham are designed to bring dignity into people's lives.

The partnership between SBI Foundation and Shri Chaitanya Health & Care Trust demonstrates how grassroots knowledge and institutional support can deliver scalable, sustainable impact. Year-round irrigation has been significantly boosted, enabling 2-3 crop cycles per year, and food security has been improved.

Mahadev Patil, a farmer from Dolhari Kh, encapsulates the spirit of the project, saying that these efforts have given them courage. The transformation is a testament to the power of collaboration and investment in India's future, as stated by Shiddalingesh Ballolli, Chief Coordinating Officer, SBI Foundation.

The future looks bright for the communities in the Palghar district. With distress migration reduced and local livelihoods improved, the region is on its way to becoming a shining example of rural development. The initiatives are not just about charity, but about investing in a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
