In a significant development, Russian drones targeted a thermal power generation facility in the Kyiv region overnight into Monday, causing damage and raising concerns about the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

According to Ukraine's air force, 112 drones were either shot down or suppressed, with 26 drones impacting across seven locations, and debris falling in one other. The attack has reportedly led to blackouts in some parts of Kyiv, and the Energy Ministry has stated that the goal of the attack was to cause difficulties for the civilian population, potentially leaving homes, hospitals, kindergartens, and schools without electricity and heat.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed displeasure about the ongoing conflict and has threatened additional sanctions on Moscow in response to its continued frontline offensives and long-range strikes. Trump visited Russia and met with Vladimir Putin in Alaska to discuss further talks about a peace treaty regarding the Ukraine war, but no other specific countries visited by Trump for peace talks in Ukraine were mentioned in the search results.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged a more severe U.S. response after Saturday night's strikes. In a recent meeting with European leaders and virtual talks with Trump in the French capital, Zelenskyy referred to the ongoing conflict and the need for a stronger international response. Trump has mentioned that European leaders will visit the White House this week for further talks on the Ukraine conflict.

Trump has not specified the greatest obstacle to a peace deal in Ukraine, and he has not clarified what the agreed-upon sanctions for refusal to talk in Paris entail. Last month, Trump imposed an additional 25% tariff on all Indian goods related to New Delhi's purchases of Russian oil and military equipment.

Defenders have been working tirelessly to eliminate the consequences of the shelling, and generation facilities, electricity transmission and distribution systems, and gas infrastructure are not considered military targets, according to the Energy Ministry. Reports indicate that rescuers and energy workers are currently working to restore power and prevent further damage.

As the conflict continues, the international community is closely monitoring the situation and seeking ways to bring about a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
