Russian President Vladimir Putin grants Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Central Committee of the Russian Federation, an additional year in his post.
The position of Chairman of the Supreme Court in Russia had been vacant for some time, with several potential candidates being considered. One of these candidates was Alexander Bastrykin, the current Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
Bastrykin, who has been heading the Investigative Committee since its establishment in 2011, was previously considered as a potential candidate for the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court twice. However, it seems that his services were needed elsewhere, as it was reported by Kommersant and Vedomosti on August 26 that Bastrykin would retain his position as Chairman of the Investigative Committee for another year. His term of federal state service has also been extended until August 27, 2026.
Meanwhile, the vacancy in the position of Chairman of the Supreme Court has been filled. The Prosecutor General of Russia, Igor Krasnov, was the only candidate for the position and was appointed to the role. This marks a change in leadership, as Krasnov now holds the position formerly occupied by Bastrykin.
It is worth noting that there are no available search results indicating any current candidate for the position of Chairman of the Supreme Court of Russia other than Alexander Bastrykin and Igor Krasnov.
