Sabotage at Kransand, Mainz-Kastel: Elevator out of commission for several weeks

The elevator at Kransand's leisure facility in Wiesbaden is currently out of service following an act of vandalism that occurred on August 22. ESWE Verkehr, the transport company responsible for the facility, announced the outage.

The elevator, which provides a barrier-free connection between the Kransand area on the Rhine and the traffic junction at the bridgehead in Mainz-Kastel, was installed in August 2024. However, it has experienced two instances of vandalism, the first occurring in June, which cost around 6,000 euros for repairs.

The latest attack has caused significant damage, particularly to the automatic doors of the elevator. Repairing the elevator is technically complex, and the repair process is expected to take approximately twelve weeks. The repair costs for the elevator are in the five-digit figure.

During the repair process, the elevator cannot be used. This means that visitors with mobility issues may face difficulties accessing certain parts of the leisure facility until the repairs are complete.

At present, there is no publicly available information about who caused the vandalism damage to the Kransand elevator. The authorities are investigating the incident to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

We urge all visitors to the Kransand leisure facility to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to the facility management or the local authorities. We hope that the repairs will be completed as soon as possible, and the elevator will once again provide a convenient and accessible connection between the Kransand area and the traffic junction at the bridgehead in Mainz-Kastel.
