In the world of professional football, the San Francisco 49ers have been making waves with the return of defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. Saleh first joined the 49ers organization in 2017 and has since proven his worth, leading the team to impressive defensive performances.

After a brief stint as the New York Jets head coach and a year as a consultant with the Green Bay Packers, Saleh has returned to the 49ers. His first game back was a memorable one, as the 49ers held the Seattle Seahawks to just 13 points in a 17-13 victory.

Nick Bosa, the 49ers' star defensive end, believes that Saleh is the perfect choice for the defensive coordinator position. Bosa, who missed his second year with a torn ACL, has only had Saleh for one year but has been impressed with his coaching style. He compared Saleh to offensive mastermind Kyle Shanahan, praising Saleh's intelligence and dedication.

Under Saleh's leadership, the 49ers finished second in total defense in the 2019 season, allowing 281.8 yards per game. The following year, in 2020, the team finished fifth, allowing 314.4 yards per game. Despite his departure, the 49ers still managed to finish eighth in total defense in the 2024 season, allowing 317.4 yards per game. After his return, the 49ers currently rank fourth in total defense, allowing 230 yards per game.

Bosa put up impressive numbers in Saleh's first game back, recording six tackles, three for a loss, and a sack. The pairing of Saleh and Bosa seems to be firing on all cylinders to open the season.

As the 49ers prepare for Week 2, they will face the New Orleans Saints. If Saleh continues to call the right defensive schemes and Bosa continues to break through the line of scrimmage, it may be difficult for the Saints to slow San Francisco's momentum.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the 49ers have an elite coaching staff in place with Saleh calling the shots. With Saleh's return, the 49ers are poised for another successful defensive season.
