Sanwo-Olu Promises Continuous Support for Individuals Who Prioritize Collective Over Personal Gains
In a significant move towards leadership development and public service, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State signed legislation in 2025 to officially establish the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) as a statutory institution. The event took place at Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday.
The graduation ceremony of the 2024/2025 Cohort of LJLA and the induction of the 2025/2026 Cohort was held, with Sanwo-Olu serving as the special guest of honour. He pledged that Lagos State will always honour the towering legacy of Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, the former governor of Lagos State, for whom the academy is named.
Sanwo-Olu charged the graduating fellows, who have been through a program that has left them with scars of growth and stories of courage, that their journey through the LJLA has prepared them for governance and public service. He reminded them that their role is not just to occupy positions, but to elevate them with courage.
The governor emphasised that the LJLA is a bridge between youth aspirations and leadership responsibilities. He encouraged the graduating fellows not to take the world as it was when they entered the program but to shape it according to their visions and aspirations.
Sanwo-Olu also stated that with the signing of the LJLA Bill into law, leadership development is an enduring covenant in Lagos State. He further added that graduation is not an end but the sounding of the trumpet, implying that Lagos is waiting for them to take action.
The graduating fellows have confronted complexities and emerged with clearer eyes and stronger hearts. They are encouraged to step forward and make a difference in the state and beyond.
With the enshrinement of the LJLA into law, the academy is set to continue its mission of nurturing future leaders who will uphold the legacy of Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande and contribute positively to the development of Lagos State.
