Sappi unveils recyclable, high-resistance single-material paper for packaging use
In a recent development, Lecta and Sappi Europe have introduced new barrier papers that are set to revolutionize the packaging industry.
Lecta, a leading European paper manufacturer, has expanded its Metalvac range with the introduction of the Metalvac Seal Oxygen Barrier. This metallized barrier paper offers light, water vapour, oxygen, and aroma barriers, making it an ideal choice for various applications. Notably, the Metalvac Seal Oxygen Barrier is PFAS-free and resistant to moisture and grease.
The Metalvac Seal Oxygen Barrier is designed to meet industry demands for technical performance, industrial efficiency, and sustainability. It is available in natural and gloss finishes, suitable for direct food contact, and complies with toy safety standards.
Meanwhile, Sappi Europe has launched Guard Pro OHS and Guard Pro OMH mono-material papers. These high-barrier papers offer protection against oxygen, water vapour, grease, and MOSH/MOAH. Guard Pro OHS is heat-sealable and is ideal for applications like flow-wraps, sachets, and pouches. On the other hand, Guard Pro OMH offers similar barrier properties to OHS but is designed for cold-seal applications, with an improved oxygen barrier and excellent conversion results in metallization.
In an effort to eliminate the need for plastic-based alternatives, Kapag has combined its lamination process with Sappi's paperboard and barrier paper to deliver a recyclable mono-material solution for food products. Kapag's lamination capabilities include processing materials from reel to reel with widths ranging from 5 cm to 250 cm, and finish to sheet formats up to 360 cm long.
Typical applications for Guard Pro OHS include snacks, dry foods, ice cream flow wrap, hygiene products, and children's items. The Metalvac Seal Oxygen Barrier, being part of Lecta's Metalvac range, also caters to a wide range of applications due to its versatile properties.
