Saudi Arabia and Japan have agreed on the necessity of discussions to address the Iran nuclear problem.
Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya and Saudi Arabian counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a telephone conversation on Tuesday, as reported by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The discussion focused on various regional issues and the strengthening of bilateral relations.
During the conversation, Iwaya stressed the importance of respecting Syria's independence and sovereignty. He also emphasized Japan's continued diplomatic efforts toward a peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue through dialogue. In response, Prince Faisal agreed with Japan's stance on seeking a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.
Regarding the Middle East, Iwaya highlighted the need to address the severe humanitarian situation in Gaza. The foreign ministers expressed pleasure at the high-level exchanges between the two countries on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year. They agreed to continue communicating to further strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in the international arena.
Prince Faisal welcomed Japan's proactive role in stabilizing the region and expressed his desire for close cooperation. Iwaya, who was in Kuwait attending the Japan-GCC Foreign Ministers' Meeting and other events, expressed Japan's appreciation for Syria's move toward a peaceful transition.
In addition, Iwaya stated Japan's intention to continue its diplomatic efforts toward a peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue through dialogue.
