Saudi Arabia strengthens its Advisory Board with the addition of two new members
The Dutch Gambling Authority (Kansspelautoriteit, KSA) has bolstered its Advisory Board with the addition of two new members: Prof. Dr. Ingmar Franken and Marjolein Hoogland. They join Chair Anita Vegter, as well as existing members Peter Kerkhof and Haiko van der Voort, for an initial term of three years [1][2][4].
The new appointments aim to provide the KSA with valuable advice and second opinions on various regulatory matters. While specific details about their previous careers or expertise are not widely available, both Prof. Dr. Franken and Marjolein Hoogland are experienced professionals who will bring important insights to the board, aiding the regulator in its decision-making processes [2].
Marjolein Hoogland currently holds the position of National Chief Advocate General of the Public Prosecution Service of the District Court of The Hague. Prior to this role, she served as Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the same court [3]. Prof. Dr. Ingmar Franken, on the other hand, is a full-time professor of Clinical Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam and heads the Centre for Addiction and Substance Research in Rotterdam [5].
In recent news, three operators received warnings from the KSA last month due to breaches of the Wwft, or the Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Prevention Act [6]. The KSA also published its second assessment of the gambling rules changes from 2024 earlier this summer [7].
With these latest senior-level appointments, the Advisory Board is now back at full strength, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the regulatory matters under its purview. The extensive experience and unique knowledge of Prof. Dr. Ingmar Franken make him an excellent addition to the Advisory Board of the KSA, while Marjolein Hoogland's background in law will undoubtedly prove valuable in navigating the complex legal landscape of the gambling industry.
