State Bank of India and Agence Francaise de Développement Partner for Green Transition Drive

In a significant move towards promoting green financing in India, the State Bank of India (SBI) has partnered with the Agence Francaise de Développement (AFD) to secure a EUR 100 million line of credit. This collaboration was announced on August 30, 2025, and aims to further India's transition to a low-carbon economy.

The partnership is expected to strengthen India's green transition drive by supporting innovative green technologies, project structuring, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) integration for SBI. The collaboration will enable SBI to provide competitive financing solutions for climate-related projects, enhancing resilience to climate-related risks.

India's largest bank, SBI, has launched a Green Rupee Term Deposit as part of its strategy to promote green financing in the country. The Green Rupee Term Deposit will be used for Climate Mitigation Actions, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions and climate adaptation measures.

SBI will leverage AFD's expertise in climate finance through this partnership. The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) also brings valuable expertise in climate finance that SBI can utilize for its collaboration with AFD. GIZ develops climate finance solutions globally with local adaptation and promotes innovative investments for climate protection and resilience.

The goal of this partnership is to ensure measurable environmental and social impact with this collaboration. It is a strategic step towards SBI's goal of achieving a green portfolio constituting 7.5-10% of its domestic gross advances by 2030.

This partnership does not involve any advertisements and will operate at SBI's GIFT City branch. The partnership is intended to further India's transition to a low-carbon economy and promote green financing in the country. The collaboration is expected to play a crucial role in India's efforts to combat climate change and build a more sustainable future.
