In an exciting start to the college football season, Northern Iowa triumphed over Butler with a final score of 38-14. The Panthers' new head coach, Matthew Schecklman, led the team to a dominant performance, throwing four touchdown passes in the game.

Schecklman, who previously coached at Drake for six seasons, started the scoring with a touchdown pass to Derek Anderson, giving Northern Iowa an early 7-0 lead. In the second half, he continued to impress, throwing touchdown passes to Tysen Kershaw, JC Roque Jr., and Ayden Price, helping the Panthers pull away from Butler.

Harrison Bey-Buie, a key player for Northern Iowa, had a standout game, rushing for 81 yards on 12 carries. His 1-yard run concluded an 80-yard drive, giving the Panthers a 17-14 halftime lead.

Meanwhile, Butler struggled offensively, with their new head coach, Kevin Lynch, facing a tough challenge in his debut. Quarterback Reagan Andrew led Butler in rushing with 75 yards and a score, but completed only 22 of 36 passes for 189 yards, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions.

Butler also struggled with turnovers, committing three during the game, two of which led to touchdowns for Northern Iowa.

In terms of total yardage, Northern Iowa outgained Butler, racking up 448 yards compared to Butler's 336.
