School on Schölkstraße officially begins operations as scheduled
The Schölkestraße Elementary School in Brunswick, built by entrepreneur Dr. Thomas Strunz, is set to open its doors this school year with a first grade. The school, located on the outskirts of the city, near residential construction and a meadow landscape, complements the existing elementary schools in the western ring area.
The project, implemented as an extended total contractor model, was awarded to Goldbeck Public Partner GmbH. The school building, designed according to the KfW-40 standard and meeting the "Gold" standard of the German Sustainable Building Council, boasts a usable area of approximately 1,500 square meters, including a playground.
The budget for planning and construction was around 20 million euros, with the project receiving a grant of around 1.6 million euros from KfW Bank. The school's large-area photovoltaic system on the green roof is operated by the Braunschweig Energy Cooperative, making it an energy-efficient institution.
The school building is barrier-free, with barrier-free rooms and paths throughout. The central staircase connects the cafeteria, full-day area, and schoolyard, providing easy access for all students and staff. The classrooms are arranged around the central staircase on the upper floors.
The Schölkestraße Elementary School offers modern learning conditions for up to 200 students and staff. In addition to its primary function, the school's two-story sports hall, around 1,300 square meters in size, is shared with the Oswald-Berkhan School and local sports clubs.
The city of Brunswick is responsible for infrastructural building management, ensuring the school is well-equipped to provide a high-quality education in a sustainable and accessible environment. The school has even received the QNB Plus quality seal for sustainable buildings, a testament to its commitment to environmental responsibility.
As the first grade students settle into their new classroom, the Schölkestraße Elementary School promises to be a beacon of innovation and sustainability in Brunswick's educational landscape.
