School traffic flow and routes are being scrutinized by ACE authorities at Weyersberg Primary School.
In an effort to enhance the safety of school routes across Germany, the ACE Auto Club Europa has launched the "Easy Going - School Route Index 2025". This ambitious project, which involves around 700 volunteers examining at least 150 primary schools nationwide, aims to provide a comprehensive picture of school route safety in the country.
The initiative, a collaborative effort with the German Road Safety Council (DVR), will culminate in the creation of the "ACE School Route Index", a valuable resource that will highlight shortcomings, initiate improvements, and support schools in implementing child-friendly mobility concepts.
The index will be based on the results of extensive checks conducted across primary schools nationwide. Over 150 checks will be carried out, with each school being scrutinised for factors that may endanger the safety of students, such as parent taxi traffic and traffic infrastructure issues in the school environment.
Volker Schork, Regional Representative of the Region Saarland & Rhineland-Palatinate, has emphasised the need for improvement in school route safety, stating that there is much work to be done in this area. Sven Rudolph, chairman of ACE, shares this commitment, expressing his dedication to making the school route safer for all children in Germany.
As part of the initiative, ACE will distribute 10,000 reflective bands, school route guides, and DVR Pixi books nationwide to first-graders. These resources are designed to enhance the visibility and safety of young students on the roads. Schools in particularly critical environments will also receive additional support through ACE information evenings, where targeted solutions can be developed.
The ACE initiative focuses on the motto 'Easy Going' to further improve safety on school routes. Children in primary school age are particularly vulnerable, as they often struggle to assess complex traffic situations correctly. Parent taxi traffic can cause confusing situations, with parents stopping in the second row or on sidewalks, increasing the risk of accidents.
The results of the initiative will be published in the fall, providing a much-needed insight into school route safety in Germany during the fall season. The ACE School Route Index 2025 is set to be a valuable tool in the ongoing effort to ensure the safety of Germany's schoolchildren.
