Scottie Scheffler Achieves Milestone, Matching Tiger Woods' 17-Year Record in Golf Rankings

In the world of golf, comparisons to Tiger Woods at his peak are rare and significant. However, the current form of Scottie Scheffler is drawing such comparisons, as he prepares to tee off in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, starting with the FedEx St. Jude Championship on August 7.

Scheffler's impressive performance has been evident in his points average, which has only been equalled once before. In 2008, Tiger Woods held a similar average for four weeks. This year, Scheffler's average has been gradually increasing, with a high of 20.25 points per tournament over the rolling two-year period.

Last week, Scheffler's average points stood at 17.9550, but he has managed to improve upon this, with one week above the 20-point mark in the last two years. This consistent outperformance of his rivals has propelled him to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), a position he also held when he won The Open last year.

Interestingly, Scheffler and Woods are the only two players to have won The Open while holding the top spot in the world rankings. Woods's high point came following his US Open playoff win, where he earned 100 points, similar to Scheffler at The Open.

Rory McIlroy, another golfing great, has admitted that Scheffler has been on a different level for the last two years. McIlroy's average points per tournament, at 11.5563, pales in comparison to Scheffler's.

However, there is one player who Scheffler believes stands alone in golf greatness - Tiger Woods. Despite this, Scheffler's latest victory brings him three-quarters of the way to his career Grand Slam.

In the FedEx Cup Playoffs, Scheffler will be looking to continue his impressive form. Last year, he won the Tour Championship, although Collin Morikawa topped the leaderboard and claimed over 47 world ranking points. Hideki Matsuyama, who won last year's FedEx St. Jude Championship, claimed over 70 world ranking points.

Since August 7, 2021, Jon Rahm has earned the most world ranking points in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. As the playoffs commence, all eyes will be on Scheffler as he seeks to continue his remarkable run of form and potentially join the elite club of golfing greats.
