Securing Construction Sites against Theft and Break-ins

In the city of Nordhorn and the district of Grafschaft Bentheim, a unique initiative is underway to combat burglary during house construction. The Crime Prevention Council of Nordhorn, the local police, and the craftsmen's association of Grafschaft Bentheim have joined forces to educate builders and architects about structural burglary prevention measures.

According to Police Officer Uwe van der Heiden, responsible for crime prevention at the Emsland-Grafschaft Bentheim police station, burglary crime decreased in Grafschaft Bentheim in 2017. However, van der Heiden often finds that there are usually no modern burglary protection measures in place, even in new or recently renovated apartments. This initiative aims to make it difficult for burglars in houses in Grafschaft Bentheim in the future by reaching the builders and architects directly.

The title of the information flyer, "Secure living is planable," reflects the intent of the initiative. The flyer, which has been included with every building permit application since early September, provides valuable information on burglary prevention during house construction. It emphasizes the importance of proactive burglary prevention, stating that victims are often materially and psychologically affected.

The local craftsmen's association of Grafschaft Bentheim has been cooperating with the police on crime prevention for about ten years. They agreed to cover the costs for the design and printing of the information flyer. The city of Nordhorn and the district of Grafschaft Bentheim issue building permits with the police information sheet on burglary prevention.

The joint effort is not limited to the building control authorities, the Crime Prevention Council, the police, and the local craftsmen's association. The police are also involved in providing information on burglary prevention during house construction. Van der Heiden proposed raising awareness about burglary prevention through the building control authorities, which was immediately welcomed by the Crime Prevention Council of the city of Nordhorn (KPR).

The KPR, a committee convened by the city of Nordhorn, is responsible for developing ideas and concepts, as well as carrying out or supporting actions to prevent an increase in crime in Nordhorn. The initiative aims to educate about structural burglary prevention measures, with the goal of making secure living a planned aspect of house construction.

While the search results do not provide information about the cities and districts affected by the new program for distributing information sheets to prevent burglaries during house construction, this initiative in Grafschaft Bentheim serves as a model for other areas to follow. By working together, these organisations aim to create a safer living environment for everyone in Grafschaft Bentheim.
