Verizon and Knightscope Partner to Enhance Public Safety with Autonomous Security Technology

In a significant milestone, Verizon has partnered with Knightscope to bring advanced autonomous security technology to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This partnership marks an advancement in autonomous security technology and is part of Verizon's commitment to enhancing public safety.

The Knightscope K5 Autonomous Security Robot (ASR) is designed to patrol large outdoor spaces autonomously, even during extreme weather conditions. Equipped with Verizon's 4G LTE connectivity, the K5 ASR boasts advanced real-time data transmission and monitoring capabilities. The K5 ASR autonomously recharges and operates independently to maintain continuous surveillance.

Knightscope's K1 Emergency Communication Devices (ECDs) also operate independently 24/7. They are equipped with voice connectivity, broadcast alerts, and illumination capabilities, making them ideal for expansive outdoor areas and assisting first responders in harsh conditions.

The partnership enables Knightscope to provide one-touch access to services such as police, fire, and EMS at hospitals, universities, and corporate campuses in times of danger, personal crisis, or medical emergencies. Knightscope's K1 ECDs will also benefit from Verizon's connectivity, ensuring reliable communication in critical situations.

The deployed private 5G network at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System provides a next-generation, campus-wide, full-spectrum, hybrid commercial and private 5G environment. Knightscope will have access to Verizon Frontline, advanced network and technology for first responders.

Verizon was awarded part of a $448.3 million, nine-year expansion with VA medical centers and health care facilities to supply mobile devices and mission-critical communications support. With this partnership, Verizon has also deployed a full spectrum private 5G network across the VA Palo Alto Health Care System.

Plans exist to integrate 5G in the near future for the K5 ASR, further enhancing its capabilities. The K5, powered by Verizon, holds a FedRAMP Authority to Operate (ATO) designation from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, ensuring the highest level of security for government facilities.

This partnership is a testament to Verizon's dedication to providing secure connectivity to autonomous security technology, contributing significantly to the safety and security of various institutions.
