Pastor Björn Kranefuß Retires as Airport Chaplain at Hamburg Airport

After a quarter of a century of dedicated service, Pastor Björn Kranefuß is set to retire from his role as airport chaplain at Hamburg Airport in Fuhlsbüttel. His successor, Pastor Christina Stemmann (46), will take over on October 1.

Pastor Kranefuß has been a comforting presence for travelers, offering support in times of illness, death, and emotional crises. He has also given travel blessings, performed weddings, and even founded a choir. His commitment to the airport community extends beyond the travelers, as he has paid special attention to the employees, expressing gratitude for their great appreciation.

Pastor Stemmann, who has a background as a pastor and has served in various church roles, shares a special connection to Fuhlsbüttel Airport. She worked at the check-in during her studies, and her new role as airport chaplain excites her. Chaplaincy, she considers, is particularly close to her heart.

The change of duty will be marked with a service on September 16 at 5 pm, at Fuhlsbüttel Airport, Terminal 2, Top Deck. This will be an opportunity to bid farewell to Pastor Kranefuß and welcome Pastor Stemmann.

Over the past 25 years, Pastor Kranefuß has witnessed significant changes in air traffic. The attacks of 9/11 were a turning point, and Fuhlsbüttel had to adapt. He has had many valuable conversations with people about their wishes and experiences while traveling.

Pastor Stemmann brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously served at the Paulskirche in Schenefeld and the Vocational School in Pinneberg. She is ready to continue the tradition of compassionate care and support that Pastor Kranefuß has provided for so many years.

As we bid farewell to Pastor Kranefuß and welcome Pastor Stemmann, we take a moment to reflect on the dedication and service that has been shown by both individuals. Their work has touched the lives of many, and their legacy will continue to inspire those who follow in their footsteps.
