US President Donald Trump Attends US Open Men's Final

US President Donald Trump made a return to the US Open tennis Grand Slam after a decade, attending the men's final on September 8. The event, held in New York, brought together a star-studded crowd, including celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan, Ben Stiller, and Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola.

Trump's presence at the tournament drew attention to the sport, according to Spanish star Alcaraz. The attendance, however, was not without complications. Some tennis fans waited for over an hour to pass enhanced security checks to enter the venue, a consequence of Trump's visit.

The presence of the President delayed the start of the match by 30 minutes due to tightened security checkpoints. The match being attended was between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

Trump's visit to the US Open was met with mixed reactions, with the crowd booing him in 2015 as well. This time around, he was greeted with a mix of boos and cheers. The city of New York, where President Trump is from, is overwhelmingly Democratic.

Trump's visit to the US Open is part of a series of sporting events he has attended since his second term. He has been present at the FIFA Club World Cup final, Super Bowl, multiple UFC bouts, Daytona 500 NASCAR race, and plans to attend golf's Ryder Cup and potentially host a UFC fight on the White House grounds.

Trump has hailed the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics as part of a "Golden Age of America." Interestingly, Democrat Bill Clinton was the last sitting president to attend the US Open, and he had a cordial meeting with Trump.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, and Steve Witkoff - Trump's envoy for peace missions - were also present at the US Open. Major tournament sponsor Rolex welcomed President Trump into its stadium box.

In other news, Trump plans to attend a baseball game on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, and to address the UN General Assembly on September 23. He spent several weeks at his luxury Fifth Avenue condo in New York last year during a historic criminal trial mid-campaign. Trump changed his residency from Manhattan to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, during his first term.
