Seeking BIM Champions for the year 2026

buildingSMART Germany has announced the BIM Champions 2026 competition, a search for innovative and forward-thinking applications of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the fields of high-rise, infrastructure, and civil engineering construction.

The competition is divided into two phases, with the deadline for the first phase set for September 30, 2025. Submissions for the first phase must be made exclusively through the application platform available at [https://www.buildingsmart.de/bim-champions/]. In this initial phase, only basic information about the project/work and the involved organizations is requested.

The competition aims to showcase projects that emphasize resource conservation and environmental protection, particularly in the category of Sustainability. It also seeks to honour innovative work in the categories of Design, Construction, Building Suppliers, Operation/Maintenance, Technology/Innovation/Solutions, Work by Apprentices and Students, and overall Sustainability.

Clients are encouraged to participate, ideally in cooperation with designers, executors, operators, or suppliers. The independent jury of renowned experts will select the best submissions for the final round.

In the final round, a promotional film must be submitted. The promotional film should be approximately 10 to a maximum of 12 minutes long and clearly present the key aspects of the submission. The search results do not provide information about which organizations are selected for submitting a promotional film in the final round of the BIM Champions 2026.

The award for work by apprentices and students includes 2,000 euros in prize money and inclusion in the buildingSMART Campus. The BIM Champions 2026 will be announced in late 2025.
