AfD Leader in Lower Saxony Aims for Minister President Role and Black-Blue Coalition

Klaus Wichmann, the parliamentary group leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Lower Saxony, has reaffirmed his party's ambition to govern and made a bold statement about his potential role as Minister President in the next state election in 2027.

During an interview with NDR, Wichmann expressed his preference for a black-blue coalition, led by the AfD, as a potential coalition option. This specific preference for a black-blue coalition, led by the AfD, was not previously mentioned. Wichmann also stated that he is willing to consider a coalition with the CDU in the future, a fact that was not previously mentioned either.

Wichmann's statements about running for Minister President were made to the German Press Agency in January. He stated that, as things stand now, he will apply and run for the position of Minister President in Lower Saxony.

However, it is important to note that no other party is currently willing to coalition with the AfD, according to previous information. This means that the stated preference for a coalition is not a current reality.

Despite this, Wichmann remains optimistic and believes that a partner for coalition will be found when necessary. He emphasized the AfD's desire for governance in Lower Saxony and stated that the party wants to make politics, not just be in opposition.

Wichmann also made it clear that the AfD wants to change things in Lower Saxony. The AfD's renewed claim to govern and Wichmann's statements about a potential coalition with the CDU were made during the NDR summer interview.

In January, Wichmann had expressed in an interview that he could imagine running as Minister President in the next state election in 2027. He also stated that the AfD wants to make politics, not just be in opposition, and that the party's goal is to govern.

These latest statements from Wichmann underscore the AfD's continued determination to play a significant role in the political landscape of Lower Saxony and potentially form a government in the future.
