Self-employed tutor brings in nearly 190,000 euros annually, with a relaxed working schedule of just nine months.
Carter Osborne, a former public relations professional, has found a new calling in life: full-time tutoring. After quitting his job in 2024, he launched Carter Osborne Tutoring, specialising in college essay tutoring.
Osborne's career change has proven to be a lucrative one. In his first full year as a dedicated tutor, he earned approximately $220,000 (around €189,000). This impressive figure is a testament to his dedication and the demand for his services.
Osborne's tutoring business operates during a peak season that spans from May to November. During this period, he can work up to 50 hours a week to meet the needs of his students. However, the peak season ends in January, leaving him with about three months off.
After the first month of rest, Osborne spends the next two months travelling and visiting friends. He considers this time essential for recharging and preparing for the next peak season.
Osborne's approach to tutoring is unique. He doesn't just help students with their academic work; he helps them learn more about themselves and their stories. By doing so, he empowers them to craft compelling college essays that truly reflect who they are.
Osborne charges $250 (around €215) per hour for his tutoring services. Despite the high fee, his clients are willing to pay for the quality of service he provides. He is incredibly lucky to have turned his creative passion for writing into a lucrative career.
In addition to his tutoring business, Osborne takes three months off each year. This break allows him to step away from work and reconnect with the world, ensuring he remains inspired and motivated to continue helping students find their voices and tell their stories.
