Severe car crash in Bochum: Driver (age 27) hits tree, causing passenger (age 20) to be ejected from vehicle
In Bochum, Germany, on July 23, a traffic accident occurred on Berliner Straße towards Wattenscheid, at the junction with Friedrich-Lueg-Straße.
According to Polizei Bochum, the driver, a 27-year-old man from Hattingen, lost control of his vehicle during an overtaking maneuver, causing the vehicle to collide with the curb, hit two trees on the median, spin, and rotate before stopping diagonally across the road.
Both the driver and his passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Mülheim an der Ruhr, were taken to the hospital by ambulance. The woman was ejected from the vehicle and sustained severe injuries.
The Bochum Police's traffic division has taken over further investigations, with specialists from the traffic accident investigation team involved. The cause of the loss of control was presumed to be excessive speed. A voluntary drug test conducted on the driver tested positive for cannabis.
The accident scene was closed to traffic for several hours. The investigation into the traffic accident is still ongoing.
