Severe thunderstorms in Massachusetts result in a tornado touching down in Holden.

In Holden, Massachusetts, a tornado touched down on Saturday afternoon, causing significant damage to properties and leaving residents shaken. Phyllis Lorrain's property was littered with branches, and branches were falling near her window as she sought safety in her basement during the storm.

Barbara West of Paxton reported hearing a "whistling" sound from her house and a loud crack and boom during the storm. Dottie Reid, a resident of Paxton, stated that she has never seen such damage in her 50 years of living there.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning in Worcester and Middlesex County until 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. Radar confirmation means that there was enough evidence on radar to confirm the existence of a tornado, and it was radar confirmed around 4:07 p.m. Forecasters use the correlation coefficient, a method of radar, to detect when debris is tossed into the air from a tornado touchdown.

Crews are working to clear streets affected by the tornado, and power restoration efforts are underway for those affected. Residents in Holden have expressed feelings of gratitude and relief, with Lorrain expressing her gratitude that no one was hurt during the tornado.

Terry Eliasen, the meteorologist and executive producer of the WBZ-TV Weather Team, has been closely monitoring the situation. Eliasen, who has worked at WBZ for more than 20 years, mentioned that the velocity scan on radar showed the tightening of winds. Doug Kammerer, the meteorologist and executive producer of the WBZ-TV Weather Team, started his role at WBZ in 1993.

Previous warnings were issued in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties. Those warnings have also since expired. No new information about the duration or intensity of the tornado was provided, but it was only on the ground for a short period of time before lifting.

As the clean-up and recovery efforts continue, the Holden community comes together to support each other in the aftermath of this natural disaster.
