Shane Lowry skips Rory McIlroy's Irish Open festivities due to an unexpected cause.
Rory McIlroy Claims Irish Open Victory in Play-off, Shane Lowry Finishes Tied-for-15th
Rory McIlroy emerged victorious at the Irish Open, securing his first win since his Masters triumph in April. In a thrilling play-off against Joakim Lagergren, McIlroy clinched the victory with a birdie on the third hole.
Despite finishing 25th at the Irish Open held in 2025, Shane Lowry remained optimistic about his upcoming schedule, especially the Ryder Cup at Bethpage. Lowry, who is set to participate in his third Ryder Cup campaign a fortnight later, found positives in his performance, despite not winning the tournament.
Lowry's final round score of 71 left him tied-for-15th, 10 shots behind the leaders. Instead of celebrating with McIlroy, Lowry opted for an evening swim with his wife, Wendy. Posting a picture of them by the sea on Instagram, Wendy captioned it: "Evening swim."
Lowry, who plans to work on his putting in the coming days before the BMW PGA Championship, felt his performance in Kildare was a grind for the most part. Despite this, he accepted his result as part of golf and did not express any disappointment.
McIlroy's victory earned him $1.02million (£755,130) in prize money, further cementing his position as one of the top golfers in the world. His win also marked a significant milestone in his career, as it was his first since completing the career Grand Slam.
Lowry, on the other hand, will compete at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth next week, aiming to improve his performance and climb up the leaderboard. The Irish golfer will undoubtedly be a force to reckon with, given his past performances and unwavering spirit.
