Shift in Directive along Severinusstraße

In the heart of Hürth-Hermülheim, the urban development project "Lifeline Lux" is currently underway, aiming to make Luxemburger Straße more attractive and livable. The project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building, as well as the NRW State Ministry for Home Affairs, Local Government, Building and Digitalization, has secured 7,971,413 euros for this transformation.

The project's scope includes the creation of a traffic-calmed zone with greenery and high stay quality on Luxemburger Straße between Bonnstraße in the south and Horbeller Straße in the north. To achieve this, a new pipeline will be installed through a shaft structure, connecting wastewater from two tributaries of the Bonnstraße to the canal in Severinusstraße.

Access to Severinusstraße from Luxemburger Straße is currently closed for the construction of this shaft structure. During the construction period, entry to Severinusstraße will be possible via Weidengasse and exit via Fritz-Räcke-Straße, leading back to Weidengasse via "Im Schetteling". For a construction period of two months, the traffic flow in Severinusstraße will be reversed.

Residents can look forward to the reopening of Severinusstraße, anticipated in late 2025, along with the reopening of the sidewalks between Horbeller Straße and AOK-Straße at the beginning of 2026. The project is expected to be completed and reopened to traffic at the beginning of 2027, with the roundabouts at Bonnstraße and Horbeller Straße being built subsequently.

In addition to the improvements to the infrastructure, residents can also benefit from free connections for district heating and fiber optics. For district heating, residents can apply by calling 02233 / 53-600 or visiting fernwaermevertriebswunserewebsitede. For fiber optics, residents can apply by calling NetCologne at 0221 /2222 5544 or visiting glasfaserswunserewebsitede.

The "Lifeline Lux" project also receives additional funding of 171,600 euros for the planned cycle street from the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport and the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) as project bearers for the federal special program "City and Country" and the Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the State of NRW.

As part of the project, the old canal that needs to be replaced by the new supply lines will be taken out of operation. Despite the construction, two-lane traffic is possible between Bonnstraße and AOK-Straße, but a single-lane entry to the construction site between 6 pm and 9 am remains in place out of consideration for residents.

The "Lifeline Lux" project promises to bring significant improvements to the infrastructure and livability of Luxemburger Straße in Hürth-Hermülheim, making it a more attractive and vibrant part of the city.
