This decision has led to speculation that players like T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and vice-captain Shubman Gill, who was recalled to the T20I team while Iyer was controversially left out despite strong IPL performances, were prioritized over Iyer for T20 selection.

Nayar finds it hard to understand how Iyer isn't even in the reserves if he's such a strong contender. He suggests that selections often come down to personal preferences, which might be a factor in Iyer's exclusion.

India's chief selector Ajit Agarkar clarified that Iyer's omission from the Asia Cup squad was not performance-related. He stated that the limitation of being able to pick only 15 players at the moment was the reason for Iyer's exclusion, and he will have to wait for his chance.

Despite this, Nayar speculates that the selectors might not be viewing Iyer as a part of India's T20 plans anymore. His comments suggest that Iyer might not be in the team's plans at all, raising concerns about the future of the talented batsman in the Indian cricket team.
