Trans Regio GmbH, a leading name in regional transportation, is set to enhance its services in Rhineland-Palatinate with the introduction of three modern Mireo Smart trains. The new trains, manufactured by Siemens Mobility, will be integrated into Trans Regio's existing workshop infrastructure in Koblenz, where extensive experience with Mireo trains already exists.

The quick start of operations is made possible by the fact that the vehicles are already manufactured, with the first delivery scheduled for October 1, 2025. The contract for this short-term provision was signed on August 19, 2025, and the operation of the new RB 32 line is planned to start on December 14, 2025.

The new line will operate electrically without transfers from Ahrbrück via Remagen to Koblenz and onwards to Boppard. This will provide the Ahr Valley with an additional direct connection to the Middle Rhine axis, improving regional mobility. The line will operate on the currently rebuilding and future electrified Ahr Valley railway.

The new Mireo Smart trains, with a top speed of 160 km/h, will offer a comfortable travel experience. They will feature spacious multi-purpose areas for up to 21 bicycles, onboard internet (Wi-Fi), numerous power outlets, and USB charging ports at the seats, ensuring a timely and convenient journey. The vehicles will also have 214 seats, including 12 in a separate first class.

The operation of the new RB 32 line will create around 20 new train driver jobs. Trans Regio, committed to offering secure jobs in the region, is also looking for interested candidates for the Remagen location.

The order marks the first expansion of an existing Mireo fleet via the Smart Train Lease model. The standardized vehicle concept significantly contributes to the quick start of operations. Siemens Mobility's innovative high-frequency disc solution ensures reliable wireless connectivity even during the journey, further enhancing the travel experience.

The use of modern Mireo Smart trains efficiently utilizes the new infrastructure, reflecting aligned priorities of politics and industry for sustainable regional mobility. This move by Trans Regio GmbH marks the first expansion of its services in Rhineland-Palatinate for many years.

In conclusion, the introduction of the new Mireo Smart trains is a significant step towards improving public transport in Rhineland-Palatinate. The trains, with their modern features and efficient operation, are set to provide a comfortable and convenient travel experience for passengers while contributing to sustainable regional mobility.
