According to reports by dpa-infocom, the captain of the cargo ship was heavily intoxicated, with a blood alcohol level of 0.02%. The mate had an even higher level of 0.022%. The names of the individuals involved have not been disclosed, but it is known that the captain was 36 years old and had a blood alcohol level much higher than 0.02%. Both the captain and the mate were found to be under the influence.

The incident took several attempts for the captain to complete the docking maneuver near Bückeburg. The police, upon being alerted, ordered the captain to dock the ship. They also temporarily prohibited further travel for the cargo ship as a precautionary measure.

The water police initiated a criminal investigation for drunk boating, and the cargo ship was temporarily prohibited from further travel. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
