Snooker world champion Kyren Wilson secures the BetVictor Northern Ireland Open title, outplaying favored Judd Trump in a decisive win
In the world of snooker, the Home Nations Series continues to captivate fans with its prestigious tournaments. This season, the series, which consists of the English Open, Northern Ireland Open, Scottish Open, and Welsh Open, has seen a standout performance from Kyren Wilson.
Wilson, a rising star in the sport, has already clinched two titles this season. His latest victory came at the BetVictor Northern Ireland Open 2022, where he successfully overcame Pang Junxu and Mark Williams to secure the trophy. For his efforts, Wilson received a prize money of £100,000 (approx. €119,990).
The Home Nations Series, which has been in existence since the 2016/2017 season, has a rich history of honoring well-known snooker players. The trophies of all four competitions are named after these legendary players to pay tribute to their contributions to the sport.
However, no player has yet managed to win all four trophies of the Home Nations Series. This season, several players have claimed titles, but only Wilson and Judd Trump have won more than one. Trump, the world number one, has won the most Home Nations Series trophies with six titles to his name.
The International Championship 2024, the next tournament on the calendar, promises to be an exciting event. With a field of 128 players, the competition will begin in Nanjing, China, on Sunday, November 3rd. Among the anticipated first-round matches are Ronnie O'Sullivan versus Mink Nutcharut and Ding Junhui versus Reanne Evans.
The final of the International Championship 2024 saw Wilson face off against Trump. Wilson started the game strongly, winning the first seven frames in a row. Despite Trump's best efforts, including a century break of 143 during the final, Wilson dominated the match, eventually securing a 9-3 victory.
As the season progresses, the race for the top spots in the WST world rankings heats up. Trump currently leads the rankings, with Wilson close behind in second place. With two titles under his belt, Wilson is certainly making a strong case for the top spot.
The Scottish Open will take place from December 9th to 15th, and the Welsh Open from February 10th to 16th. As the Home Nations Series continues, fans can look forward to more exciting matches and potential records being broken.
