Solingen's Botanical Garden
The Botanical Garden in Solingen, a popular destination for outings, has been an attraction since its opening in September 1963. Spanning over 61,000 square meters, this lush oasis offers a variety of attractions for guests throughout the year.
Located under the care of the "Stiftung Botanischer Garten Solingen" (Botanical Garden Solingen Foundation), the garden is meticulously maintained to ensure a clean and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
The outdoor area features a 2,139 m² large pond area, home to numerous water creatures. The pond provides a serene backdrop to the garden, offering visitors a tranquil spot to relax and unwind.
Entry to the Botanical Garden is free, with a donation requested for maintenance and care. The garden is open from 8:00 AM until dusk, with specific hours varying by season. Guided tours can be booked in advance for a more in-depth exploration of the garden's offerings.
For the younger visitors, there are playgrounds available, and in the summer, a kiosk selling food, drinks, cake, and ice cream adds to the fun.
One of the highlights of the Botanical Garden is the Tropical House, a climate-controlled conservatory that houses unique and rare plants from distant countries and continents. The Tropical House also features an aquarium, making it a must-visit for plant and aquatic life enthusiasts.
Schools often book guided tours through the Tropical House for 15 to 25 people, making it an educational experience for children as well.
The Botanical Garden in Solingen also boasts various gardens and collections, including the Alpinum, Mediterranean Garden, Showhouses, Cottage Garden, Biblical Garden, Perennial and Changing Planting, Rose Garden, Herb Garden, Wild Bee Learning Path, Fern Wall, Heath Garden, Pond, Iris Garden, Reading Hall, Primrose Garden, Conifer Quarter, Healing Plant Bed "Capitulare de Villis", extensive bromeliad collection, Orchid Collection, Cactus and Succulent Collection, Citrus Collection, and more. In total, the garden boasts 20 theme gardens and 9 showhouses.
Dogs are allowed in the Botanical Garden, but they must be kept on a leash and are not allowed in the showhouses. The garden also offers several benches for visitors to sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
