Sonos and Ikea end their collaboration on 'Symfonisk' home audio products
Sonos, the popular audio technology company, is taking a new direction in an attempt to win back customer trust. The company has announced that it will be focusing on improving its core audio products, following a rough year that saw the removal of popular features and the introduction of bugs in the May 2024 app update.
This shift in focus comes after the resignation of the CEO at the start of 2025, due to customer complaints about the app. Tom Conrad, who served as interim CEO since January 2025, was appointed as the new CEO effective immediately in July 2025.
One of the key areas Sonos is looking to improve is its product line-up. At present, there are no new deals or promotions on Sonos products, and the company has not yet announced any new Sonos speakers to be released. The rumored Sonos streaming box is reportedly on hold as the company focuses on its core products.
However, Sonos has confirmed that it will continue to support Symfonisk devices with software updates for the foreseeable future. These devices, which were developed in collaboration with Ikea, generally received positive reviews, with the first-gen lamp and bookshelf speaker earning four stars. Existing Symfonisk devices will remain on sale while stocks last.
In a bid to attract more customers, Sonos has reduced the price of its five-star Era 100 speaker from £249 to £199. Despite these issues, Sonos reported a 3% year-on-year growth in revenue in its quarterly earning report, largely attributed to a 14% reduction in operating expenses.
Sonos has also moved the majority of its US-bound production out of China to avoid tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump. This move is expected to help the company reduce costs and improve its competitiveness in the market.
It is worth noting that the price reduction of the Sonos Era 100 speaker is not related to the holding of the Sonos streaming box. The Sonos Ace feature has not been adopted by Sony in the XM6 headphones, indicating that Sonos' focus remains on its core audio products.
In conclusion, Sonos is facing challenges but is taking steps to address them. By focusing on improving its core audio products and reducing costs, the company hopes to win back customer trust and continue to thrive in the competitive audio technology market.
