A week ago, the Saarland police force was plunged into mourning as 34-year-old officer Simon Bohr was shot and killed during an operation in Volklingen. On a chilly day in Saarlouis, approximately 1,500 to 2,000 people gathered to pay their respects at his funeral.

The funeral service took place at an evangelical church in Saarlouis, with Pastor Jörg Beckers officiating. The service was filled with poignant moments, including a trumpet solo of the Beatles song "Yesterday" and a painted heart image placed in front of a podium adorned with a photo of Officer Bohr.

Hundreds of uniformed police officers participated in the funeral procession, marching through the city for about 1.6 kilometers before reaching the cemetery. Many mourners held white roses and wept during the procession, a testament to the deep sorrow felt by the community.

Simon Bohr was described as a police officer through and through, professional, reliable, and approachable. Pastor Beckers and police chaplain Hubertus Kesselheim spoke of his selflessness and his advocacy for everyone, never speaking ill of others. His widow addressed the mourners during the church service, but her words were not made public.

The police president, Thorsten Weiler, described the current situation as one of the darkest hours for the Saarland police. He noted that Simon Bohr's death has left a deep hole in the police and his family. The public prosecutor's office is investigating the case, including for murder.

The great sympathy felt throughout Germany, neighboring countries, and the Saarland population is a small comfort in difficult times. A central memorial service for Simon Bohr is planned for Friday in Saarbrücken, as announced by a police spokesman.

Flowers are often laid at the scene of the crime, and children bring self-made pictures and toys as a gesture of sympathy. These tokens serve as a reminder of the impact Officer Bohr had on his community and the lasting impression he left behind.
