South triumphs in championship with Ravensburg as the victor!
The ifm Razorbacks Ravensburg triumphed in an exhilarating game against the Saarland Hurricanes, securing their place in the championship with a final score of 41:25 at the Hermann-Neuberger-Stadion in Völklingen.
The first quarter was marked by offences from both teams, setting the stage for an action-packed game. Evan Liggett, the Hurricanes' star player, made a spectacular catch to tie the game at 14-14. In response, the Ravensburg team found the end zone for the first time, thanks to a long pass from Quarterback Broghean McGovern to Anthony Harris Jr.
The second quarter, however, was characterised by strong defences, resulting in no further points being scored. The stalemate was broken in the third quarter when Spencer Corona caught a ball for a touchdown, giving the Hurricanes a 20:14 lead.
The final quarter was dominated by the Ravensburg team. Lennies McFerren, their running back, proved nearly unstoppable, scoring a touchdown. Jonah Choate and Nils Wulf each intercepted a pass, adding to the Ravensburg's defensive prowess.
Walter Kuhlenkamp scored a touchdown for the Hurricanes and ran in the 2-point conversion, but it was not enough to prevent the Ravensburg team's late surge. The game ended with a final score of 41:26, securing the Razorbacks' biggest success in their history.
The victory was the eighth win in twelve games for the team, and it guarantees them a spot in the playoffs. The opponent for the next round is the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, with the quarterfinal scheduled for September 21, 2025, at the TeleData Stadium in Ravensburg.
The sporting director, Oliver Billstein, expressed his excitement for the playoffs and his intention to ensure that the game against Kiel (September 21, 3 pm/Teledata-Stadion, Weingarten) is not the last of the season.
Coach John Gilligan was drenched after the traditional Gatorade shower, a testament to the team's hard-fought victory. He expressed pride in the team, coaches, and the entire organisation after the game.
Aniel Buße had the best opportunity to score in the second quarter, but the ball slipped through his hands, a moment that could have changed the course of the game. Despite this, the Razorbacks showed resilience and determination, ultimately securing a well-deserved victory.
