Spontaneous distribution of moderation tools for Kamishibai Storytelling Theater, now accessible to all firefighters.

The Association of Fire Services in North Rhine-Westphalia (VdF NRW) and Provinzial have developed new resources to help educate children about fire safety. These new materials, in the form of picture stories for the Kamishibai storytelling theatre, are now available for free as a download.

Kamishibai is a traditional storytelling form originating from Japan, where picture cards are inserted into a wooden frame to support a story. This method has proven to be an effective instrument for conveying vital fire safety knowledge in an interesting, exciting, and playful way.

The new picture stories cover two essential topics: "Recognizing Hazards" and "Correct Behavior in Case of Fire". These stories are part of the fire safety education and awareness materials provided by the Association of Fire Services in NRW.

The Association of Fire Services in NRW prioritizes supporting the fire safety education of children and believes that recognizing hazards and reacting correctly in an emergency are essential learning contents. The new picture stories are being made available to fire departments for easy and quick access by as many departments as possible.

Maria Koch, fire safety education and awareness officer at the Association of Fire Services in NRW, explains the value of Kamishibai. "The Kamishibai storytelling theatre strengthens self-protection and self-help skills in the context of fire safety education for children," she says.

The new moderation cards for the Kamishibai theatre were developed by the German Social Accident Insurance (Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung, DGUV). The download link for the new moderation cards is available at www.vdf.nrw > Association > Fire Safety Education and Awareness > Materials.
