After a seven-year hiatus, supporters of HSV are once again witnessing Bundesliga matches at the Volksparkstadion. Regrettably, the much-anticipated derby against St. Pauli isn't proceeding smoothly.

FC St. Pauli Triumphs in First Bundesliga Derby Against HSV in Over a Decade

In a highly anticipated clash, FC St. Pauli emerged victorious against Hamburg SV (HSV) in the first Bundesliga derby in more than 14 years. The sold-out Volksparkstadion was buzzing with energy as 57,000 spectators created a breathtaking derby atmosphere.

The match began with a new-look HSV, as Yussuf Poulsen and Jean-Luc Dompé were introduced by HSV's coach in the 56th minute, but they were unable to turn the game around. On the other hand, FC St. Pauli, currently leading the Bundesliga table, displayed a more mature and well-rehearsed performance.

The first goal of the match came in the 19th minute, with Adam Dzwigala capitalizing on a corner kick to put FC St. Pauli ahead. HSV's goalkeeper, Daniel Heuer Fernandes, had no chance to save the goal.

HSV's defender Miro Muheim was outplayed by Dzwigala during the goal, and a scuffle during a foot race between HSV's Jordan Torunarigha and Hountondji was ruled as a foul against Hountondji, preventing a potential goal for HSV just before half-time.

The second half saw FC St. Pauli extend their lead in the 60th minute, with Andreas Hountondji scoring from a tight angle after a brilliant pass from Joel Fujita. Nikola Vasilj, FC St. Pauli's goalkeeper, made his first serious save in the 50th minute after a Muheim free-kick.

HSV's hopes of a comeback were dealt a blow when Giorgi Gotscholeischwili received a yellow-red card in the 77th minute. The apparent equalizer by Ransdorf Königsdörffer for HSV in the 49th minute was disallowed due to a very slight offside position of the shooter.

The last game between HSV and FC St. Pauli was won by HSV in the 2nd Bundesliga in May 2024. With this victory, FC St. Pauli now sits at the top of the table with four points after two games, while HSV is still waiting for its first goal of the season. FC St. Pauli's next match is against VfB Stuttgart, while HSV will face Union Berlin.
