Stage 14 Victory at Alto de la Farrapona: Marc Soler Solo Triumph in Vuelta a Espana

In the 14th stage of the Vuelta a España 2025, Marc Soler of UAE Team Emirates-XRG stole the show with a stunning solo victory. The mountain stage from Avilés to Alto de La Farrapona was a test of endurance and skill, and Soler passed with flying colours.

The stage began with a 24-rider breakaway, of which 13 were still in the race as they approached the challenging 16.9km ascent of La Farrapona. Soler made his move before the foot of the climb, and his teammates initially chased him down. However, Soler's determination was unmatched, and he quickly built a significant lead.

As the climb grew steeper, Soler's lead grew to 2:45 with 6km to go. UAE Team Emirates-XRG, demonstrating their team strength, stepped up the pace. Ivo Oliveira and Juan Ayuso took turns pushing the peloton, gradually reducing Soler's gap.

Meanwhile, the leading GC duo of Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) and João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) struggled to keep up, finishing 39 seconds behind Soler. Vingegaard's second-place finish extended his GC lead over Almeida by two seconds.

Jai Hindley (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) also made significant gains, finishing fourth on the stage and securing 10 seconds on Tom Pidcock (Q36.5) in the fight for the podium. Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) continued to struggle in the second week of the Vuelta.

The decisive final week of the Vuelta a España will determine the podium positions. With four minutes separating the GC contenders, every second counts.

UAE Team Emirates-XRG's dominance was evident throughout the stage. Soler's win marked their fourth consecutive stage and seventh overall in the 2025 Vuelta a España. The team has already achieved 80 victories in the current season, showcasing their exceptional form.

As the race enters its final stages, all eyes will be on the GC contenders. However, it's clear that UAE Team Emirates-XRG will continue to be a force to be reckoned with.
