Star player Aaron Judge, captain of the Yankees, set to take a leave due to a flexor strain in his elbow, fortunately avoids any UCL damage.
New York Yankees star outfielder Aaron Judge is set to miss some games after being diagnosed with a flexor strain in his right elbow. The injury occurred during Tuesday's game against Toronto and is expected to keep him out for 10 to 14 days.
Judge first felt the pain during the sixth inning of the game. He was seen clenching his right hand in a fist after making a strong throw to prevent a tying run. The pain intensified, causing him to miss the rest of the game and the following one.
The Yankees' manager, Aaron Boone, received the results of Judge's MRI just before the start of Saturday's game. Boone expressed concern about Judge's injury due to his toughness, as Judge is known for playing through pain.
Judge leads the major leagues with a .342 batting average and 1.160 OPS. He also has 37 home runs and 85 RBIs for the Yankees this season. His absence will undoubtedly be felt by the team.
The Yankees are currently 5 1/2 games back of first-place Toronto in the AL East. They are looking for reinforcements to fill in for Judge, but there are no search results indicating which players from the Yankees' Triple-A team, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, are likely to be called up.
Giancarlo Stanton is expected to start working out in the outfield next week to fill in for Judge. Initially, Judge plans to return as a designated hitter after the 10-day injured list stint.
During his absence, the Yankees will wait for the results of Judge's MRI before reacting to his injury. In the meantime, they will continue to rely on their other players to step up and fill the void left by Judge's absence.
In the sixth inning of Saturday's game, Davis Schneider beat Judge's tag at home plate, highlighting the void left by the injured star. The Yankees will hope for a speedy recovery for Judge and a return to form once he is back on the field.
