State authorities and the Generalitat are coordinating efforts to arrange a state funeral for the victims of the Danish catastrophe, scheduled for October 29th.
The tragic flood disaster that struck Valencia in early October claimed the lives of 228 people. The community is still grieving, and plans for a state funeral to honour the victims are underway.
Initially, the state funeral was scheduled to take place at the Ciutat de Les Arts i les Ciències, but recent updates suggest a potential last-minute change in the date or location. As of now, the funeral is set to occur on October 29, marking the first anniversary of the disaster.
The funeral mass was held in Valencia, but not at the Ciutat de Les Arts i les Ciències. Instead, it took place at an undisclosed location. The King and Queen of Spain, along with 400 direct family members of the deceased, attended the moving ceremony.
The liturgy was organised by the Archbishopric of the capital of Valencia, while the Government and the Valencian Regional Government are jointly organising the state funeral. The Valencian Government was represented in full at the funeral mass, including the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón.
Three ministers of the Government attended the funeral mass, with María Jesús Montero leading the delegation. However, the identity of the Deputy Prime Minister involved in leading the government delegation during the memorial service for flood victims is not yet officially confirmed.
Among the Deputy Prime Ministers mentioned for Belgium are David Clarinval, Maxime Prévot, Frank Vandenbroucke, Vincent Van Peteghem, and Jan Jambon.
No further details about the state funeral have been officially confirmed yet. The community continues to wait for updates, hoping for a fitting tribute to remember those who lost their lives in the flood disaster.
A previous funeral mass in memory of the victims was held in Valencia Cathedral on December 9, over a month after the disaster. The state funeral, whenever it takes place, will undoubtedly be a significant event for the community, marking a moment of remembrance and healing.
