In a concerning turn of events, the Mainz Police Headquarters has issued a warning to residents following two incidents where an individual impersonating a Telekom employee stole from elderly residents.

On Wednesday at 13:30, the first incident occurred in a multi-family building at "An der Krimm" in Gonsenheim. The suspect, described as approximately 190cm tall, around 50 years old, with gray hair, speaking German without an accent, and wearing orange sneakers, approached an 82-year-old resident. Claiming to be a Telekom employee who needed to perform power checks, the suspect asked the resident to turn a lamp on and off in the neighboring room while he was stealing her purse.

A similar incident took place about 15 minutes later in Bretzenheimer Straße, where the suspect stole jewelry from a 90-year-old resident. In both cases, the suspect used a green blinking device while pretending to perform checks or scans.

The Mainz Police Headquarters advises against letting strangers into your apartment without prior arrangement. Anyone with information about these cases is asked to contact the Mainz Criminal Police at 06131/65-33999.

The search results do not provide information about a suspect who committed these crimes. However, the Mainz Police Headquarters Press Office can be reached at 06131 / 65 30022, and their email address is [email protected].
