Steal-robbed Watch Worth $1 Million Files Legal Action Against Tropicana Las Vegas Casino
A Fresh Take on a Las Vegas Heist Drama
Local Sacramento resident, Raimond Irimescu, has decided to take legal action against two heavyweights: Tropicana Las Vegas and Uber. This move comes after a harrowing experience that left him injured and financially crippled from a high-stakes heist. The Las Vegas Review-Journal has been the voice that exposed this chilling incident.
Raimond Irimescu is one half of the family-run business, "Paul's Watch Repair" based in Sacramento, specializing in high-end, pre-owned timepieces. In October 2021, he ventured to Las Vegas for the International Watch & Jewelry Guild expo hosted at the Tropicana.
A Night of Terror
On October 19, while lounging in an Uber ride within the casino's forecourt, a white minivan and a gray SUV brazenly charged onto the property, ultimately halting the Uber car's progress. The aftermath was nothing short of terrifying, as reported in the lawsuit filed in the Clark County District Court on Monday. Witness accounts describe four hooded assailants, dressed in black and white masks, exiting the white minivan and gray SUV then launching a violent attack on the plaintiff. Irimescu was left with devastating injuries. The savage assailants also purloined two suitcases and a backpack, containing the top-tier watches that Irimescu had on display at the expo.
The Tropicana's Security Blind Spot
The lawsuit puts harsh criticism on the Tropicana, contending that it didn't provide sufficient security for an event that attracts valuable merchandise and corresponding criminal elements. The expo's reputation as "the world's most active central exchange for acquiring, buying, selling, and trading fine watches, vintage, collectible timepieces, estate jewelry, and important diamonds" makes it a prime target for thieves. Irimescu's legal complaint claims that the casino's dereliction of duties, including negligence, carelessness, and recklessness, led to an inadequate security presence during the event. The lawsuit further alleges that Tropicana failed to ensure a safe environment for Irimescu.
Uber's Negligence
Meanwhile, Uber and the named Uber driver in the lawsuit share responsibility for ensuring passenger safety, a responsibility Irimescu claims they woefully failed to meet. The lawsuit asserts that Uber neglects to adequately train its drivers on passenger safety and conduct comprehensive background checks on its employees.
As of the current moment, neither Bally's Corp., the Tropicana's owners, nor Uber, have provided comments on this ongoing legal case.
