Steam Faces Overwhelming Launch of Silksong

In a surprising turn of events, the launch of the highly anticipated indie game, Hollow Knight: Silksong, has caused a stir amidst reports of server issues and long lines at gaming booths.

The Australian indie studio, Team Cherry, based in Adelaide, released Hollow Knight: Silksong today at 4 PM. The game, available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, has been met with massive demand, as evidenced by long lines observed at the Microsoft Xbox (Hall 7) and Nintendo (Hall 9) booths at the Gamescom fair.

Despite the excitement, the launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong on Steam caused server crashes due to simultaneous 'Buy' button clicks by hundreds of thousands of fans. This is less common for an indie studio compared to big blockbusters and online games.

Meanwhile, there were reports of connection drops in the Nintendo eShop during the launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Interestingly, the game was initially unavailable on the Nintendo eShop, Xbox Store, and PlayStation Store. However, it is now available on all platforms.

Hollow Knight: Silksong topped the list of upcoming Steam releases with the most wishlist entries for months. At launch, the number of concurrent players on Steam surpassed 100,000, according to SteamDB. The game is priced at around 20 €.

It's worth noting that Hollow Knight: Silksong is included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at no additional cost, adding to its accessibility for subscribers. The game's predecessor, Hollow Knight, was also developed by Team Cherry.

The release date of Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced on August 19 during the Gamescom opening show Opening Night Live (ONL). The game has been eagerly awaited by fans since its announcement, and its launch has certainly lived up to the hype, despite the initial server issues.
